Artist Notes
I make collages because of my homage of the trees. I grew up on a 5 acre ranch with at least 100 acres of forest that belong to my grandfather behind it. And I was always in the woods. Even though I don’t have access to that anymore, I still honor my childhood and my love for the trees by creating collages. I only work with paper for the most part because of my love and admiration for these beautiful beings. And yes, I am grieving for what’s to come for our national parks and our forests. America does not need more of this energy production, bullshit. America needs more conservation efforts. We’re going in the wrong direction because of what this man is doing.
“Daughter of the Woods” is a handcut paper collage intertwining the essence of nature with the spirit of identity. The piece is a battlecry opposing President Donald Trump’s 2025 policy reversals on forest protection and the threatening impact to biodiversity. The woman symbolizes a deep connection to the treesas a manifestation of the woods, reinforcing the idea that she is both guardian and offspring of the natural world. The juxtaposition of elements and textures in this collage create a narrative of balance between sky and earth, revelation and mystery, in the midst of political turmoil.
